Estuary & Mudflats
A19 Beck
Submitted by Anonymous on 10 July, 2010 - 16:33.Just underneath the A19 flyover bridge in Stockton layes the small muddy beck to which most local mud fan of teesside enjoy -
the main part of the beck is used as a overflow from the river tees (the other side of a gate system) tho up stream the beck opens out to a public sight not best visited.
The River Tees
Submitted by Anonymous on 10 July, 2010 - 16:22.Just off the main roads in the centre of Teesside next to the former heavy cemical works is a small out of the way river creak just off the main neck of the river tees near Newport bridge theres easy cover on both side of the creak once the river has dropped leaving a lovely wet area up to 3 feet in some places.
Mersey Estuary, Wigg Island, Runcorn
Submitted by merseymud on 16 June, 2010 - 21:21.Muddy creek in Mersey Estuary with a nice waist-deep pool of creamy smooth liquid mud, great for full immersion wallowing - I do it in just Speedos. Even at low tide there's plenty of water nearby to wash off afterwards. Access very easy from Wigg Island Community Park. Not very private so best after dark. Check that tide is out first.
Slippery and private
Submitted by rubbermanrod on 16 April, 2010 - 21:49.Next to the railroad bridge, nice and private for some sliding and squishing!
Harperleas Reservoir Fife
Submitted by Fawsox on 5 April, 2010 - 13:53.To the west of the reservoir is a section that leads into a stream and this is the best section for really deep mud. I used to visit this place very regularly in my wellies and get completed mucky as hell. Can wash it off in the water too before getting back to the car.
It's along the side of a rambling path so it's occupied with passers by during the afternoon and weekends, but is usually deserted on summer/autumn evenings. This was my favourite mudding and wellie adventure playground for years till I moved away.
Southeastern PA
Submitted by DCMudpuppy on 2 April, 2010 - 08:25. I'd call this an "estuary or mudflat" as it is alongside/near the Susquehanna River in southern PA between York and Harrisburg. Easy to reach from I-83.
Really having trouble with this pointer on the map, so do NOT go by these coordinates. Contact me if you want directions.
Several good areas with dark brown mud, some clay, some with vegetation. No vast mudflats, but nice patches, a pretty scenic, wooded area.
Mersea Island, Essex
Submitted by muddyskin on 18 September, 2009 - 10:27.Just to the south of Colchester, Essex, you will find Mersea Island. You have to cross a causeway in order to reach the island, but it has some of the best mud in the country. Deep black mud, no shingle or stones etc..
Lake Mead
Submitted by wetdog777 on 10 April, 2009 - 07:03.The lake is receding, and each week new mud id exposed. This is a fine clay mud that is creamy and smooth with a mocha-gray color. Depths vary from an inch or two up to a few feet (A couple centimeters to a meter). With the warm water of the lake next to you, clean up is easy. The mud rinses off easily with no staining. Once through the washer and your whites are bright again.
River Ribble and Savok Brook
Submitted by muddyjosh on 12 January, 2009 - 20:31.There is some realtivly deep mud along the river Ribble on both sides, but on this side, all the way from Preston Docks up to the brook and along the brook there are some great patches of ud and soem shallow quicksand. The close you are to the Preston Docks sthen the less private it is. Irts also tidal. great places to jsut get boots muddy, to rolling around in but not too deep.
There is a motor x tnear by, but if you park near the docks and walk 15 mins along the riverside footpath then you will be ok
Southport
Submitted by muddyjosh on 12 January, 2009 - 20:27.A bit of walk, and tidal, but far enough away to be relativley private and not to close to the airbase on the other side of the river.
