Amesbury, UK

Description of the location

I found this spot during a visit to the UK back in 2005 and 2006. I would like to apologize in advance asI am unable to provide any pictures of this location, but found it interesting, so I would like to share this one with you, anyway. It is close to Stonehenge so you can go mudding plus get educated in 1/2 a day!   ;-)

The location shown in the map indicates the parking lot you might want to 'get rid of' your vehicle. Do not change into gear here, but follow a public footpath starting right at the entrance of the parking area (at the playground), which follows along a soccer field to your left. Cross a bridge over a stream and continue on uphill and go straight at a junction of several footpaths. Turn right at the beginning of field so it is to your left until you reach the far corner and turn left here. There is a bog straight ahead ( the path continues to its left) and once you leave it behind, you will find muddy areas (knee-deep) at the end of the bog and to your right following a crotch-deep creek (can be used for clean-up). The light-grey, knee-deep mud is very sticky and you will need your time to leave it.

The swamp is best and deepest, if you follow the original path to a small bridge over the creep described above. The smooth almost black mud sucks you down easily and you will get wet feet even when wearing waders.

As this is a public footpath, you might get unexpected visitors; see attachment for details (satellite image of the area).
