Barton Cliffs
Some really great mud here, but unfortunately a little bit overlooked by people waking along a cliff top footpath (which is gradually eroding into the sea along the holiday chalets!). There are places where you can get muddy without being seen from the cliff top or the beach below.
The landscape is constantly changing at this location as the cliffs are eroded by sea and rain. After lots of wet weather the cliffs are basically a mass of mud slurry slowly slipping into the sea below (the bottom of the cliffs is below the water table so water just seeps out) and mud runs onto the beach. In try weather there is still often mud here where most other places have dried up
High tide is a good time to visit as less people will be walking along the beach below, but fossil hunters also collect at such times (not usually on the cliffs themselves from what I've seen)
I'd take care not to play under steep parts of the cliffs in case parts of it slide in quickly. As you will see at the location it's more that whole sections of ground crack and slowly slide down over a matter of hours
A carpark is located slightly to the west of the cliffs, which are short walk down the hill and across the chine
