Bury Mud

Description of the location

Leave the M66 at Junction 3 and head down Pilsworth Road in an easterly direction.  The road has been blocked, just after the entrance to the site, but you can park in front of the fence.  The entrance to the site (marked on the map) is over a gate and up a short incline.

The mud is mostly thick, smooth and sandy, and I found areas that were knee deep.  There is a large pool in the centre of the site which is in the process of being drained.  I didn't venture all the way in on this visit, but found some very thick mud at the edge.

There is a pond to the east of the site where you can clean up.

The site is a working quarry, and so not advisable to visit during daylight hours.
