Macclesfield Forest
Deep within Macclesfield Forest, you'll find a pretty glorious swamp filled to the brim with mud.
From Macclesfield, head up to the forest through Langley. When you reach the Leather's Smithy pub, take the left turn up a steep hill and continue to the top. If you're driving, you'll need to leave your car here. Then, continue through the gate onto the bridleway and walk uphill a short distance to a fork in the path. You'll see a gate to the right marked "No Access" -- check no-one's around and clamber over the fence. Now continue along this loose stone road and you'll see an old birdwatching hut on the left. Keep going and soon you'll descend slightly into a clearing. And there, right ahead on your left, is a swamp! A stream from above flows into this crater in the land, which is filled with thick and creamy mud.
The path is obviously not intended for public access ("nature reserve area") due to logging activity nearby. Check the loggers aren't at work before jumping in and you shouldn't be disturbed, but do have a quick "I got lost!" plea of innocence ready just in case. ;-) You can clean up in the stream in the trees below.
