Portland, Maine Deep Mud

Description of the location

Skittery Gusset  Creek becomes a tidal creek at the road.  The creek flow is good for clean up. There is a lift station at the road with a parking lot that been closed to public parking, but is still good for bicycle or foot access.  Mud access is at half tide and below.  The creek mus is mostly only a few inches deep, but there are two springs in the wide section (see Map) that provide the ability to get chest deep.  Scramble down the bank and follow the creek for about 200 yards.  The best mud is on the west side.  The east side has a lot of tree limbs etc.
