River Ribble
My recollection of this one is a little hazy with age so I'd appreciate a review from any who has visited this area more recently.
Parking is at the end of pool lane (which reaches the foreshore) from there it's a walk west across a few fields. Cross over the small bridge and the either reccy out the area by following the foot path along the side of the airfield, or walk towards the river (50 metres or so) and then along the bank in the same direction.
I marked on the map what I remember is a small inlet you have to cross, there are a few more of these further a long, one of which will have some mud to play in :) when I visited with mudboyandy it was 'heavy going' and at least waist deep as I remember.
Of course the mud will keep moving and shifting as time passes. Plan to visit at low tide to get the most access, most of the little streams contain some water to wash-up in even at low tide
Notes: it would be a nice location for some photos if it were not for the BAE systems site close by. There are a couple of security cameras monitoring the fence, but the end of the mudflats is out of view of those. Probably not a good idea to go sneaking around in cammo gear with a long lens unless you plan to draw attention to yourself and use the "I'm bird watcher" excuse.
I've also been told that there is some similarly good mud close by that can be accessed further up the river (via lytham st annes)
